Independent teachers

Music teacher software for the independent studio.

When you are the teacher, the front desk, and the scheduler, the calendar is where your evenings go. Here is what software can honestly take off your plate.

The jobs that eat a teacher’s week

Every September the same loop starts: collect availability from each family, find a slot that fits, tell them, then redo it when someone changes their mind. A teacher with thirty students can burn a weekend on it.

Set the Tune takes the loop. Import the list of students and their availability, press optimize, and you get a first draft with no double-bookings. You then adjust the few lessons you care about instead of building all thirty from nothing.

Where it fits, and where a spreadsheet is fine

If you teach twelve students in your own studio room on the same four afternoons, a spreadsheet is probably enough, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Software starts to pay off when you travel to students, split time between locations, share a roster with another teacher, or have families whose availability keeps shifting. That is when the drive, the sibling rules, and the conflict flags stop being things you can hold in your head.

Pin what matters, let the engine do the rest

Some lessons are not up for negotiation: the adult student who only has Tuesday at 7, the child who always goes first on Saturday. Pin a time and the optimizer leaves it alone.

Everything else is free to move, and confirmed lessons never are. You keep control of the fixed points and hand the rest to the engine, which only runs when you ask it to.

Common questions

Is Set the Tune made for one-person studios?

It is built for scheduling at scale, so the clearest fit is a teacher or school with enough students that placing them by hand takes real time. Solo teachers with a small, stable roster may not need it.

Can I use it if I travel to my students?

Yes, and that is where it helps most. It plans your day as a route using real driving time at the lesson hour, so your week has less time in the car.

Do my students need accounts?

No. Families can send availability through a simple link or you can import it from a file. They do not log in to anything.

Can I teach more than one instrument?

Yes. Each teacher carries a list of instruments, and students are only placed with a teacher who teaches theirs.

Will it send reminders to my students?

Set the Tune is not a messaging tool. It builds and checks the schedule, and you can share it through calendar feeds or exports.

What Set the Tune doesn't do.
Tuition invoicing, attendance, parent portals, family messaging. On purpose. Set the Tune is the scheduling layer. It builds the calendar your admin tools manage. If you run those elsewhere, keep them and use both.

Schedule the season in an afternoon, not a week.
